3 reasons your weight loss efforts aren’t going to plan

January, 2019

Trying to lose weight can be one of the most soul destroying parts of trying to get fitter.

Many people will give up if they don’t see results quickly. Not only is losing weight difficult but if you aren’t seeing progress then it can have a big impact on your mental health as well.

If this sounds all too familiar then don’t panic! I have 3 common reasons as to why you might not be on course to reach your weight loss goals.

Why aren’t you losing weight?

It sounds a simple question and one you have probably heard countless times. What’s the answer? It could be one of a number of things.

So, here are 3 reasons why you might not be losing as much weight as you should.

#1 You’re experiencing stress

Stress has multiple bad effects on your body and your mind and in recent years there has been a lot of evidence to show that stress can prevent your body from losing weight.

When you are stressed your body will release adrenalin as a natural response. This is fine if it is for short periods on an irregular basis. If you are constantly stressed then your body will make something called cortisol which slows down your metabolism, breaks down muscle and your blood supply will be moved away from using body fat as fuel to using glucose instead.

Regular stress can be one of the main causes that prevents weight loss.

#2 Your goals are unrealistic

Training with a goal in mind is important.

If you just exercise every now and again and don’t have a solid plan in place for your workouts then you are unlikely to see a lot of progress. A problem I come across time and time again is that people set themselves unrealistic goals especially when it comes to weight loss. You aren’t going to drop 5 stone in the space of 30 days.

Working with a personal trainer can help you to set realistic goals. This coupled with the right diet and exercise regime will not only boost your self-esteem (which can counteract any stress you feel) but lead to permanent lifestyle changes too.

#3 You’re not eating the right foods

Finally, we have your diet.

It is all well and good going to the gym 3 times a week and following a strict exercise plan however if you are eating a lot of junk or unhealthy food then it will all be in vain.

Eating the right foods to complement your fitness regime will do wonders for your weight loss progress. A personal trainer can help with this too by tailoring a nutritional plan to supplement your workout.

Losing weight with the help of a PT

I have helped countless people achieve their weight loss goals.

If you are finding that you aren’t losing weight or losing very little compared to how much you are exercising then it may be one of these 3 reasons above.

It could be something completely different.
