Struggling with workout confidence? A Personal Trainer can help
December, 2024
There are many ways in which a personal trainer can help you achieve your fitness goals.
It isn’t all about providing tailored exercise plans, encouragement and offering nutritional information – although these three things are a huge part of being a PT. Something I think is important is workout confidence and it is another area where using the expertise of a personal trainer can reap huge results.
Let’s explore what workout confidence is and how a PT can help.
What is workout confidence and why does it matter?
Workout confidence is essentially having the belief in yourself that you are performing exercises correctly and also a willingness to try new workouts and fitness plans.
It is vitally important if you want to reach your overall fitness goals. Many people struggle with gaining this confidence because they don’t have the knowledge on how to use new equipment or how to train properly for a specific challenge.
Experiencing setbacks can also dent your confidence. For example, if you are training for a half marathon for the first time and pick up an injury due to not warming up properly. These kinds of setbacks can result in tailing off your training and being unable to muster up the motivation to continue.
To ensure that you stay on the journey to meet your fitness goals, having workout confidence is vital and this is where a personal trainer comes in.
How a personal trainer can help
As PT’s, we come across countless people who have low confidence when it comes to working out. Whether it is being unsure of where to start, fear of being judged when exercising or if they have hit a fitness plateau and are no longer seeing results, all this is incredibly common. Everyone has experienced these issues at some point; however, not knowing how to overcome them is the most challenging part.
A personal trainer is invaluable to being able to provide not only encouragement and motivation but also personalised guidance. This can include tailored workout plans and also expert knowledge on how to use equipment and exercise techniques.
I think having someone along with you on the journey to hit your goals is important too. Being able to celebrate those wins (regardless of how big or small they are) together and getting introduced to new exercises, gym equipment, or running routes is key to boosting workout confidence.
What to look for in a personal trainer to gain workout confidence
Not everyone is compatible with each other. Working with a personal trainer that you struggle to communicate with or train with comfortably can be worse than not getting the help of a PT at all.
Choosing a personal trainer that suits you is crucial and this includes things such as communication style, their soft skills, the type of training you want to do as well as availability to suit your schedule.
A lack of workout confidence can really set you back but with the right personal trainer, you can start to exercise with the belief you are progressing towards your goals.
