What to do when your exercise routine is getting boring

It is easy to fall into the trap of boredom when it comes to your exercise. Once you get fed up, the chances of giving up on it completely are pretty high.

So, how can you make your exercise regime a bit more exciting.

I have 4 ways you can do this.

#1 Exercise with a friend

Going to the gym on your own, heading out for a brisk walk or a jog by yourself can help to clear your head and also give you some much needed time alone.

That being said, it can get a bit boring after a while.

One method of enhancing your motivation for exercise is to do it with someone else. Not only will this help convince you to actually go to the gym in the first place but you’ll push yourself harder as well. It also means you can have a laugh and a chat with a friend when you are working out which can break up the monotony of doing the same exercises over and over again.

#2 Set some achievable goals

Training with a goal in mind is important for several reasons. This includes:

  • Boosting your self-esteem
  • Making permanent lifestyle changes
  • Keeping you motivated

It is this last point that is important here. Aimless exercise (not working towards a specific target) is still exercise but you’ll likely get bored pretty quickly.

By training with a goal in mind you will be ensuring that you have something to focus on and when you start to see results, your self-esteem and desire to keep going will be massively increased.

#3 Mix it up

One of the best ways that you can make your workout a bit more interesting is simply to mix it up a bit!

Doing the same things over and over again gets boring pretty quickly. By changing your routine up, you’ll be doing something different which is much more likely to maintain your interest. If you are used to hitting the gym 4 times a week, consider exercising outside once or twice a week for a change

Not only will this help if you fall into a boring routine at the gym but you’ll also get benefits such as more fresh air and it can give a real boost to your mental health too!

#4 Listen to your own music

Not everyone is into the music the gym blasts out over the speakers.

OK, it is there to keep you motivated but it might not be your thing. Trying to exercise and listening to music that you really don’t like will make you lose interest pretty fast.

This is a simple fix. Get some earphones and use your phone to listen to the music you enjoy. This gives you something positive to focus on and it’ll likely make your workout a bit easier as well.
